What is ultrasonic cleaning, and how does it work?

 - Ultrasonic cleaning is the use of ultrasonic waves through a solution (in our case, water) to create tiny bubbles, which penetrate all the fabrics and crevices of your gear and basically explode any soil right off the surfaces. 

How is ultrasonic cleaning different from traditional helmet cleaning methods?

- We clean both the inside and outside of the helmet, whereas most other helmet cleaners focus on the outside. And our ultrasonic process can penetrate deep inside the padding to get out any built-up gunk.

Is ultrasonic cleaning better than dry cleaning for my firesuit? 

- Yes, we believe so. Dry cleaning uses both harsh chemicals and high temperatures, which can degrade fire-retardant fabrics or damage heat press logos. Our process uses lower temperatures and no harsh chemicals, and is as close as you can get to hand washing, which many firesuit manufacturers recommend. Ultrasonic cleaning is much easier on the fabric than either dry cleaning or machine washing and can prolong the life of your item. 

What types of motorsports helmets and gear can you clean?

- We clean driver helmets, crew helmets, firesuits, nomex underwear, gloves, shoes, seat inserts, seat belts, interior padding and more. We've cleaned window nets, steering wheels, and door padding as well, but feel free to ask us if you need something else cleaned!

How often should I have my helmet and gear cleaned?

 - It depends on how often you race, what type of racing you do, and how dirty you get. For example, a dirt racer probably needs to get his/her items cleaned more often than a drag racer. We recommend cleaning for suits every time you wear them if you get sweaty or dirty, and helmets once every few races, or if they get wet - such as in a rain race. 

Does ultrasonic cleaning affect the integrity of my helmet or gear?

 - It does not. We have worked with helmet and firesuit manufacturers to come up with a process that is safe for your gear. In reality, frequent cleaning likely elongates the life of your items. 

Will the cleaning process remove odors and sweat buildup?

- Yes! Our cleaning process removes odors, sweat and dirt buildup. Check out our before and after pictures to see! We are also able to remove many stains if they are not already set in. 

Do you disinfect helmets, or do I need to do that separately?

- We use ozone during the drying process to disinfect helmets and other gear.

Do you clean helmets that have been vomited in or if I've had a nosebleed? What if I've urinated in my suit or seat insert? 

- No worries, it happens. We do clean all of that. We only ask that you warn us beforehand as we have a different protocol for items that may have been exposed to biological contaminants, and it may take a little bit longer.  

How long does the cleaning process take?

- Generally 24-48 hours depending on how dirty your item is and how busy we are. We do our best to get everything back to all of our customers on the timeline they require. 

Do you offer same-day or emergency cleaning services?

 - We do not, the best we can do is next-day, because our drying cycle generally runs overnight as many of the items require a "low and slow" drying process.

What do I need to do to prepare my helmet/suit/gear?

- Nothing. We only take the shields off helmets as some of them have a coating that cannot be immersed in water, and we can do that for you. If your helmet has a radio connection, you can leave that in and we'll make sure it gets clean and properly dry for you. With firesuits, we recommend you hang them up if they are wet after you wear them, before you get them to us.

What payment methods do you accept?

- We accept credit card, Apple Pay, Venmo, or cash in-store, or we can send you an online invoice, which you can pay by bank transfer, credit card, PayPal, etc. We do not accept personal checks. 

Do you offer subscription or maintenance plans for regular cleanings?

- We don't currently, but it is something we are considering for the future. 

 

Do I need to drop off my helmet, or do you offer pickup services?

- We offer free pickup and delivery for teams and organizations within 10 miles of Mooresville, NC, but it must be scheduled in advance. We do not offer pick up to individual customers. Our store is located in the heart of racing country, and is easily accessible from I-77. 

Do you accept mail-in helmets and gear for cleaning?

- Yes, we have clients all over the United States, see our shipping info page for more information.

Can you clean vintage or collector’s helmets safely?

- Yes, we have cleaned several vintage collections safely. If the items are very delicate or already disintegrating we may recommend other cleaning methods. 

Do you provide any helmet reconditioning or padding replacement services?

- We do not. We recommend visiting your helmet manufacturer for any repairs/replacements.
